Testimonial Contest 2010

Entrant 18 : "Roxy" (Chris Albrecht & Rachel D'Aguilar) Kodi/Tumble Litter

1. How did you discover this breed?

We discovered the Tamaskan breed and Blustag Tamaskan on the internet. We fell in love with the breed instantly, because of their wolf-like quality and friendly personality.

2. What did you initially thought a Tamaskan would be like?

We read many articles and watched many Blustag videos on the Tamaskan breed, so we felt we had a good idea of what to expect: beautiful wolf-like appearance, intelligent, friendly, gentle, and loyal - everything we wanted in a dog!

3. How was the puppy during the first night home?

We drove all of the way from Canada to pick Amarok (Roxy) up. It took us 13 hours each way and she was amazing in the car on the drive home. She happily stayed in her crate and only whimpered when she needed to go outside. She became very comfortable in her crate, which made the first night home seem like a breeze!

4. How does the Tamaskan interact with other animals, children, and strangers?

We are amazed at how well Roxy interacts with other animals, children and strangers. We have two house cats and were a bit nervous about how they would get along. Roxy quickly became good friends with our cats and they now play and cuddle together. It's so much fun to watch. She is so great with all animals! Roxy absolutely loves children too! She loves to look out the window as children walk to and from school. Some of the children actually stop to look at her so we take her out to greet them. I'm not sure who loves this interaction more - Roxy or the children. Meeting strangers is the same. She loves to meet and give affection to all that allow her to do so.

5. What is your Tamaskan's personality like currently?

Roxy is the best! She is so loving, playful, curious, gentle, and intelligent. She loves to be in the presence of people and loves to interact with our cats. I am so amazed at how well behaved she is and how well she gets along with everyone and every animal she meets.

6. Main Testimonial

Ever since my husband and I got married, I begged him to get a dog. I took numerous trips to the local animal shelter and constantly scanned breeders' advertisements to find the perfect companion. It wasn't until we discovered the Tamaskan breed that my husband finally caved. We drove 26 hours in two days to bring Amarok (Roxy) home. Needless to say, she was well worth the trip.

Since bringing Roxy home 6 months ago, we have been amazed by her gentle demeanour, intelligence, and wolf-like characteristics. It didn't take her long to become friends with our two house cats, and it is not uncommon now to find her and Lewis cuddling at the foot of the bed. They are without a doubt the greatest of friends!

When Amarok isn't snuggling or playing with her house mates, she is out exhibiting her wolf-like qualities. She loves to spend her time outside, curiously roaming the yard, digging a den in the snow, and curling up in a wolf-like fashion to keep warm from the cold. It is so fitting that we named her Amarok - spirit of the wolf.

In terms of a companion, she is the epitome of a "man's best friend." We are so impressed by her obedient behaviour, calm and friendly manner, and unceasing loyal companionship. About once a week I take her into work with me, and she just relaxes quietly under my desk. She is so well behaved that she became the 'Power Saving Pack' mascot at an environmental event that taught people about energy conservation. Everyone wanted to take their photo with her and she didn't mind one bit :)

Whenever we take Roxy for walks, we get stopped frequently by fellow neighbours, walkers, and joggers, all curious about her breed. The most common thing we hear is how beautiful she is and how much she resembles a wolf. We are always proud to tell them about the Tamaskan breed and the great experience we had with Blustag. It's no wonder the Tamaskan breed is becoming so popular. Roxy is without a doubt the BEST dog we have ever had.
